Clinton Township, MI-June XX, 2005--Detroit Public Televison executives were stunned when “My Bedbugs” was nominated for seven Emmy awards after being on the air for less than a year. This was a new record for WTVS in the children’s programming category. On June 25th, the show set yet another record when four of those nominated took home the golden statues.
Winners for the 2004 season included: Kevin Sharpe for Audio, Christopher Rosik, Mike Parzynski, Adam Smith and Dennis Cnudde for Program Videography, Susan Wood for Set Design and Peter Tocco accepted as Producer for Outstanding Children’s Show.
Besides great success at the Emmy Awards, the show also garnered four Telly Awards earlier this year. The prestigious international awards were received by the art, directing, editing and music departments.
“My Bedbugs” is the first project for show creators Alex Greene and Carol Sweeney who also started their own production company, Greenestuff, Inc. The couple formed the company when existing children’s show producers provided no support to their early endeavors. Undeterred, they found local investors and looked in their own backyard, rather than Hollywood, to find their talented crew members.
My Bedbugs” is currently heading into its third season of broadcast, syndicated by WTVS Detroit throughout Michigan, Canada, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. Plans for national distribution begin in the fall.
